This 5 minute podcast from Ethical Corporation
shows how major media company BSkyB
is embedding sustainability into its practices and how it is using its brand to help young people with learning difficulties. CEO Jeremy Darroch doesn't even mention BSkyB's new studios, Harlequin 1,
designed by my friends at Arup
(go Ian Knowles!) which are the first naturally ventilated studios in the world. If you can imagine the amount of heat a TV studio kicks out, plus the risk of noise disturbance from natural ventilation, that's quite an achievement.
In their quest to become 'carbon neutral' (download 2006 press release here
), BSkyB are also reducing the carbon footprint of their TV programmes
, such as Gladiator.
